The Coalition meets quarterly on the fourth Friday of the month at Burbank Housing, 790 Sonoma Avenue, Santa Rosa. Meetings are held in January, April, July and October from 4:00 –5:30 p.m.

A Free COTS-Sponsored Conference for Homeowners and Tenants Facing Financial Difficulties: Keeping Our Heads Above Water

10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

A host of experts will be available to discuss option to solve financial problems; dealing with debt (including bankruptcy, payment plans and debt consolidation); guerilla budgeting (finding money where you didn’t know you had it and slashing expenses you didn’t’ know you could cut); increasing income by home-sharing; identifying public resources for which you may qualify; reducing stress and finding support. Participants will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one for an hour with a budgeting counselor to map out their expenses and debts and create a strategic plan to address some or all of their debts. FREE.

Lunch provided/childcare for kids ages 3 and over provided.

Participants will also be able to meet with HUD-certified housing counselors, who will be able to help them assess their situation and options. Our counselors are bilingual in Spanish and English. FREE.

Keynote Speaker: Robert Wiener, California Coalition for Rural Housing (CCRH) Executive Director since 1981, has 30 years’ experience in rural housing policy and programs, including successfully managing many government and foundation grants. He has a doctorate in urban planning from UCLA and has conducted research on affordable housing programs and policies. Mr. Wiener also has worked extensively in the development of and advocacy for affordable housing programs and policies. In addition to his role as CCRH’s Executive Director, Mr. Wiener also teaches a graduate class on affordable housing at the UC Davis Department of Human and Community Development.

Topic: Housing: How Will We Build What We Need?

We will recognize the 2011 Housing Hero, present the 2011 Housing Progress Report, and hear presentations from local developers and housing experts, as well as a report on Fair Housing in Sonoma County.  Breakfast is $35.00
